Cancer Care Services
Hematology/Medical Oncology: The use of medicines to treat cancer has seen great advancements in recent years and offers a variety of new, precise and personalized treatments. Often used in conjunction with other therapies, such as radiation oncology, medical oncology is a valuable tool in helping your chances for a successful outcome.
Radiation Oncology: Radiation therapy works to damage the DNA of cancer cells and cause them to die or reproduce more slowly. An important goal of radiation oncology is to specifically target cancer cells and spare healthy tissue. To do that, radiation oncologists use a range of medical imaging technologies including X-ray, MRI, CT and PET to precisely locate cancer sites. They then deploy radiation therapies to destroy even very small tumors with unprecedented accuracy.
Advanced Surgical Care: Some cancers require a surgeon to remove the cancer. Our surgeons—including breast, prostate, colorectal, thoracic, gynecologic and neurology—work alongside our medical and radiation oncologists to treat your cancer fully, often using minimally invasive approaches that allow your body to heal faster.
Nurse Navigators: Nothing turns your life upside down like a cancer diagnosis. You may feel overwhelmed by the journey ahead of you, involving many specialists and procedures. This is where our nurse navigators come in, guiding you through the process and supporting you every step of the way. Dignity Health’s Nurse Navigation program is the only one of its kind in the Greater Sacramento area. Our Woodland nurse navigators, Cindy Sucevich, RN and Anne Huang, RN, are ready to support you.
Genetic Counseling: While we all face some risk for cancer, patients with a family history of cancer may have genes that put them at greater risk. Genetic counseling is a technology that can provide strategies for prevention and early detection. In cases when cancer is already diagnosed, genetic testing can lead to more effective treatment. The Woodland Cancer Center genetic counseling team works hand-in-hand with our oncologists to ensure patients receive the most targeted, precise treatment available.
Support Groups: Everyone needs help to get through a difficult loss or illness. We are here for you and your family. Support groups can provide a safe, confidential place where you can share your concerns and learn new coping skills from others facing similar challenges.
