Powerful Tools for Family Caregivers

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an educational series designed to provide you with the tools you need to take care of yourself while taking care of an adult relative or friend. You will benefit from this class whether you are helping a parent, spouse, friend, someone who lives at home, in a nursing home, or across the country.

This class will give you tools to:

  • Reduce stress
  • Communicate effectively with other family members, paid help, physicians and health care professionals
  • Take care of yourself
  • Reduce guilt, anger, and depression
  • Make tough decisions
  • Set goals and problem-solve

This education series includes six, 90 minute classes, held each quarter virtually or at the Marian Home Care and Hospice office:  124 South College Drive, Santa Maria.

The classes are led by Dignity Health social workers. Interactive lessons, discussions and brainstorming will help you take the tools you choose and put them into action for your life.

Topics covered include using local community resources, increased confidence in coping with caregiving demands, helpful self care practices such as exercise, relaxation and regular medical check-ups, emotional management such as reducing guilt, anger and depression. You will receive The Caregiver Helpbook developed specifically for the class.

The classes and literature are offered at no cost to caregivers enrolled in the Family Caregiver Support Program.
