Breastfeeding Support

Just as we support the mom-baby bond during pregnancy and through delivery. During your stay in the hospital with your newborn, we promote bonding and breastfeeding with lots of skin-to-skin time, education, and support. Daily visits from our certified lactation consultants help moms gain the confidence and skills necessary to successfully breastfeed their babies.

Breast milk provides an excellent source of nutrition for your baby and has many health benefits for both mother and baby. Antibodies from the mother are passed through the milk; therefore, breastfed babies have a higher resistance to infection, and it may decrease the chance of your baby developing allergies, diabetes, Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis later on in life. There are also health benefits for moms who breastfeed including reduced risks for some kinds of cancer.

Marian Regional Medical Center is top-ranked for breastfeeding success in California and has received the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Care Award demonstrating excellence in the promotion, protection, and support of breastfeeding.
