Weight Loss Institute of the Central Coast - Procedures Performed

Gastric Bypass
In this operation, your stomach is reduced from the size of a football to the size of a golf ball. Your now-smaller stomach is attached to the middle of the small intestine, bypassing a section of small intestine (duodenum and jejunum), which limits the absorption of calories. Bypassing the duodenum induces metabolic changes that help improve or resolve Type 2 diabetes

Sleeve Gastrectomy

In this procedure, your stomach is restricted by stapling, and divided vertically, removing more than 85 percent. Weight loss occurs by restricting the amount of food that can be consumed.

Conversion
Our program does not offer Lap Band (Adjustable Gastric Banding) surgery.  However, we will see patients who have not been successful with the Lap Band and desire evaluation or removal (explant) of the Band.

Lap Band system removal combined with conversion to an effective weight loss operation such as Sleeve Gastrectomy or Gastric Bypass is often the most effective solution for patients who have problems or have not been successful with a Band.

Please bring a copy of your past medical records that give details regarding the date of your surgery, and what type of band you have in place.
