The $10,000 grant will benefit the Cancer Care Fund at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, which provides financial and emotional support for local cancer patients.

ARROYO GRANDE, CA – August 10, 2018 – The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County recently granted $10,000 to Arroyo Grande Community Hospital Foundation’s Cancer Care Fund to help local cancer patients in need.

The Cancer Care Fund at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital (AGCH) provides local cancer patients and survivors with their immediate basic needs to prevent unnecessary stress that could negatively affect their health. Through the Cancer Care Fund, patients in need are provided with financial and emotional support such as gas and grocery gift cards, diagnostic treatment, childcare, transportation, assistance with rent or utilities, cancer support groups, counseling, and a nurse navigator that offers personalized support for each patient from diagnosis throughout recovery.

“Part of the stress of living with a cancer diagnosis is the financial burden suddenly placed on the cancer patient, as well as the difficulty of navigating through their treatment journey,” says Montisa Phelan Lopez, Vice President of Philanthropy at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital Foundation. “This grant will help us ensure that local cancer patients are given the guidance and support they need to help them focus on making a full recovery,”

The need for the Cancer Care Fund will soon be increased as Arroyo Grande Community Hospital is expanding cancer care services on its campus. Local cancer patients will be able to receive a full range of treatment all on the hospital’s campus for the first time ever.

This is the second year in a row that the Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County has granted funds to the Cancer Care Fund. The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County provides leadership and encourages charitable giving for the issues that improve and enhance lives in the county. The Arroyo Grande Community Hospital Foundation is committed to supporting the charitable and community health care mission of AGCH through fundraising and relationship building to advance the community’s access to health care.
