The Dignity Health website is moving to CommonSpirit.org to deliver a more patient-centered digital experience across CA, AZ, and NV.
SANTA MARIA, CA - May 6, 2026 - Dignity Health’s Marian Regional Medical Center (MRMC) and Arroyo Grande Community Hospital (AGCH) a member of CommonSpirit, earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns an “A”, “B”, “C”, “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country using evidence-based measures of patient safety focused exclusively on errors, accidents, injuries and infections. Of all US healthcare systems, CommonSpirit has the largest number of hospitals with 'Straight A' designations, a testament to their consistent commitment to patient safety and quality care.

"Earning 'A's for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group at both Marian Regional Medical Center and Arroyo Grande is fantastic news! It shows just how hard our teams work every day to ensure our patients get the safest, best care possible. We're really proud of this acknowledgment," says Sue Andersen, President and CEO of Marian Regional Medical Center and Arroyo Grande Community Hospital.
"It's great to see both Marian Regional and Arroyo Grande earn 'A' grades from Leapfrog for patient safety," says Dr. Tom Vendegna, Chief Medical Officer of Marian Regional Medical Center and Arroyo Grande Community Hospital. “This means our doctors, nurses, and staff are consistently doing an outstanding job keeping our patients safe, and it really highlights our commitment to top-notch care."
“An ‘A’ Grade is a strong sign that both Marian Regional Medical Center and Arroyo Grande Community Community Hospitals are deeply committed to protecting patients from harm,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We commend the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers for the role each played in earning this distinction.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
