Osteopathic Recognition

In May 2016, the Marian Family Medicine Residency Program became the first Family Medicine residency to gain Osteopathic Recognition in California through the ACGME. Our program offers a comprehensive Osteopathic Principles and Practice educational curriculum for our Osteopathic Designated Residents (DORs).

This experience is a longitudinal curriculum, meaning that residents learn how to integrate osteopathic principles and refine their manipulative skills gradually throughout their three year residency. DORs will still complete all the same residency rotations as their peers, and upon completion they will be practice ready, approaching patients with in-depth knowledge of osteopathic principles and strong skills-based approaches to acute and chronic medical conditions.

Our DORs participate in assigned activities including: Osteopathic didactic sessions, quarterly scheduled OMM workshops, and OMT clinic. Our Osteopathic weekly didactic sessions include hands-on instruction and practice on common somatic dysfunctions and OMM techniques. Our quarterly workshops allow residents to dedicate time to learning from guests OMM specialists.
