SANTA MARIA, CA – April 23, 2020 – The Santa Maria Fire Department has organized a tri-tip barbeque and convoy of local first responders as a show of appreciation for the dedicated Marian Regional Medical Center health care staff tomorrow, Friday, April 24. The physicians, nurses, and ancillary departments have worked tirelessly to care for the health and well-being of the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it is drawing attention from local organizations throughout the Santa Maria Valley.

In addition to the meal, as a grand show of support, an array of Santa Maria Valley first responders will parade around the front entrance of Marian Regional Medical Center between 11:45a.m. and 12:15p.m. on Friday. The first-responders will remain for the ringing of the bells in the tower for the “Hurrahs for Heroes” and convoy around Marian Extended Care Center and Mission Hope Cancer Center, sounding their sirens and horns.

“The fire department staff came together with the idea of thanking the dedicated health care team at Marian Regional Medical Center with a Santa Maria style barbeque and parade,” says Santa Maria Fire Chief Leonard Champion. “We work collaboratively with our local health care providers on an ongoing basis, and now more than ever we want them to know that we recognize their outstanding efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The barbeque will begin in the morning hours at The Swiss Restaurant in Santa Maria. From the barbeque, 1500 boxed lunches will be created to be distributed to all health care staff, both day and night shift. These lunches were made possible by the generous donations of our community.
