Dignity Health and Cigna

Dignity Health is a nonprofit, mission-driven organization.

Reinvesting in our communities is a central focus. Every penny we generate is reinvested into patient care, expanded access and new services.

Our mission is to improve the health of the people we serve, especially those who are vulnerable.

Health equity is a top priority for Dignity Health, and we take seriously our calling to care for all who need us. Dignity Health is the largest provider of Medi-Cal and uncompensated care in the entire state.

Cigna’s proposal would reduce our ability to invest in patient care, expanded access and new services.

Take action today to protect your healthcare access and choice:

  • Call Cigna at the number on the back of your insurance card and urge them to work with Dignity Health doctors and nurses to reach a fair agreement that prioritizes patient care.
  • Talk to your employer’s human resources or benefits team member and urge them to contact Cigna on your behalf.
  • Call Dignity Health at 888-212-9089 to learn more about your health insurance options and how we are working to protect your access to care.

Continuity of Care

If Dignity goes out of network with Cigna California, what does that mean for members upcoming procedures/appointments?

Appointments/Procedures:

  • If a patient has appointments or procedures scheduled prior to January 1, 2026, nothing is changing and you should proceed with those services as planned.

  • If a patient has appointments or procedures scheduled on or after January 1, 2026, we encourage them to work with their care provider to reschedule prior to January 1, 2026.  If that is not possible, they may apply for Continuity of Care services for certain conditions (Cancer Treatment, Maternity, Planned Surgery, etc).  These exceptions are subject to approval and must be secured by completing a Provider Termination Continuity of Care Request Form and either mail or fax it to Cigna. The CIGNA Form Library for California is located online at https://www.cigna.com/individuals-families/member-guide/customer-forms/cigna-in-california. Also, patients should call the plan number on the back of their insurance card to verify they have the correct form and ensure it gets received by Cigna.

  • If the patient's home plan has out-of-network coverage, they may elect to use that benefit and proceed with services on or after January 1, 2026, however, patients need to contact their home plan to check the co-insurance, co-payment, and deductible amounts to understand the potential impact of your out-of-network costs.
