Protecting Access and Choice

For several months now, Dignity Health has been working in good faith to reach a new agreement with Cigna that puts patients first and protects access to essential services. We are committed to ensuring our community has continued access to the high-quality, affordable care they deserve.

Dignity Health’s Goal:

  • Protect patients’ access to our physicians, nurses and other caregivers.
  • Ensure our ability to continue to provide high-quality services now and in the future.

Cigna’s Position:

  • Despite Cigna’s billions of dollars in profits, they propose cuts that would dangerously underfund patient care – offering reimbursement far below inflation.
  • Cigna's proposal would reduce investment in the care Dignity Health physicians and nurses provide, jeopardizing our ability to maintain the high standards of care our community expects.

If Cigna refuses a fair agreement by January 1, 2026, patients may lose access to the doctors they know and trust. For the patients and communities we serve, that will mean:

  • Limited access and choice in their communities.
  • Potentially traveling great distances to receive care – especially for specialized care like oncology services, neonatal ICUs, pediatric care, burn centers, accredited stroke centers and more.

Dignity Health remains committed to working with Cigna to reach a fair agreement that prioritizes the needs of our patients and our community.

Take action today to protect your health care access and choice:

  • Call Cigna at the number on the back of your insurance card and urge them to work with Dignity Health doctors and nurses to reach a fair agreement that prioritizes patient care.
  • Talk to your employer’s human resources or benefits department and urge them to contact Cigna on your behalf.
  • Call Dignity Health at 888-212-9089 to learn more about your health insurance options and how we are working to protect your access to care.
