COVID-19 Treatment

If you have been diagnosed with COVID-19, several outpatient treatment options may be available to you. COVID-19 medications are safe and effective at helping prevent COVID-19 illness from becoming more severe. COVID-19 treatment can lower the risk of hospitalization and death from COVID-19.

Underlying medical conditions, risk factors, and the severity of symptoms may determine treatment options.

It is especially important to seek treatment if you:

  • Are 50 or older
  • Are not up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines
  • Have a health condition or other factors that increase your risk, such as obesity, asthma, diabetes, lack of physical activity, smoking, or mental health conditions such as depression. Being non-Hispanic Black, non-Hispanic American Indian or Alaska Native, and Hispanic or Latino also raises your risk.

To be most effective, treatment should be started within days after you first develop symptoms. Talk to your doctor about the treatment that’s right for you.
