Originally formed in 2003 as a challenge between 30 Australian mates to bring back the mustache, the Movember movement, spurred by the Movember Foundation, has grown into a worldwide fundraising and men’s health awareness powerhouse. Funds raised by the global network of over five million “Mo Bros” and “Mo Sistas” today fund research and initiatives to fight prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity. Participants start clean shaven on November 1st and grow a mustache over the next 30 days, documenting their growth along the way, raising funds and starting conversations about men’s health issues.
It’s not too late to become a “Mo Bro” or “Mo Sista”. Visit https://us.movember.com today to sign up and to learn more about what you can do to support men’s health.
No-Shave November is another charitable organization that encourages men and women to grow hair along with cancer awareness, and to raise funds to support cancer prevention, research and education. No-Shave November encourages us to embrace our hair – something cancer patients often lose during treatment – and donate money that we would normally spend on razors, waxing, grooming and salon services to the cause. Funds raised during No-Shave November go to support organizations such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Fight Colorectal Cancer, the American Cancer Society, and the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
It’s not too late to get involved! Visit https://no-shave.org/ today to participate or to donate.
Another important way you can support the causes above (and protect yourself) is to follow any medical advice your healthcare provider may give you about getting screened for diseases like prostate cancer or breast cancer. If you have questions about cancer screening or wish to make an appointment to see a healthcare provider, please visit our Patient Care Teams page to find your provider’s hours of operation and contact information.
