    Special Events

Mercy and Memorial Hospitals host a variety of special public events throughout the year, including health fairs, bingo nights, workshops and lectures. Nearly all of these events are free and all are open to the public!

    The Summer of humankindness

Mercy and Memorial Hospitals have teamed up with Kern Radio, La Caliente, Hot 94.1, Hits 93.1 and KGFM to put the Kindness Crew back on our streets this summer, recognizing people for their acts of kindness and committing a few of their own.

Know someone that should be recognized for the kindness they’ve shown or have a story of kindness to share? Send a message to a one of the stations!

    Why kindness?

Because it's good for you! It’s a scientific fact--kindness really can make you feel better. Kindness stimulates the production of the natural antidepressant serotonin. It helps heal your wounds, calm you down, and makes you HAPPY!

When you demonstrate kindness you may feel a wash of positive emotions. This is due to oxytocin (the hormone generated when you feel a connection with someone), which can help reduce blood pressure. So being kind is good for your heart!

Research has shown that the heart-health benefits of oxytocin might also keep you young, thanks to the hormone's ability to reduce both free radicals and inflammation in the cardiovascular system, two of the main perps associated with aging.

Kindness is a win-win-win scenario which produces beneficial effects in the giver, the recipient, and everyone who witnesses it.

And kindness actually is contagious. A single act of kindness can produce dozens more. So if you want the world to be a kinder place, be kind to others.
