Since 1992 Sequoia Hospital’s Guest House has provided a home away from home for out-of-area patients and their families receiving medical care at the hospital. The home was originally purchased by the Sequoia Hospital Foundation with the proceeds from the organization’s first charity golf tournaments. Its conversion from a single family home to a welcoming eight bedroom, three and a half bath sanctuary was carefully overseen by then Executive Director Claudia Keys. Thanks to the Foundation Board’s vision and Claudia’s leadership, the Guest House has served an estimated 10,000 patients and their families in the past twenty-five years. The comfortable and quiet environment it provides not only impacts those staying at the Guest House, but helps patients in the hospital feel at ease knowing their family members are close by.
In early 2017 it was determined that the Guest House (originally built in 1936) was in need of both structural and cosmetic work if it was to continue to serve our patients and their families. The facility was closed in June and work began immediately. The remodel of the Guest House is to be funded with support from the Sequoia Hospital Foundation.
When the Guest House now features all new kitchen appliances, new furniture in every guest room and common area, new laundry facilities, and completely remodeled restrooms. The interior is now brighter with new paint and window coverings and the exterior benches and seating areas have been completely redone. The entire facility features beautiful new flooring – a generous in-kind donation from Lumber Liquidators. The shared living room area has a new reclining sectional sofa and big screen television and guests will enjoy improved wifi service throughout the building.
