Hospital Stay Orientation Class

This in-person class is designed to prepare expectant parents for their hospital stay and the arrival of their baby.

We will cover essential topics to help you feel confident and informed, including:

  • Arrival and Registration: Details on parking, where to go, and the registration process upon your arrival at the hospital.
  • Couplet Care: Understanding the concept of couplet care, where you and your baby remain together in the same room throughout your stay.
  • Skin-to-Skin Care: The importance and benefits of immediate skin-to-skin contact with your newborn.
  • Lactation Services: An overview of the support and resources available from our lactation consultants.
  • The Nursery: What to expect regarding the nursery and when your baby might spend time there.
  • What to Bring: A comprehensive list of items you and your baby will need for your hospital stay.

And more! We encourage you to bring your questions and concerns to this interactive session.

Understanding Birth eClass

Can’t fit a childbirth class into your busy schedule or prefer to learn online at your own pace? We’ll bring the class to you! Consider the Understanding Birth eClass your go-to guide for answers you can trust on childbirth. This interactive online course covers essential information on labor and more and highlights ways partners can help. You’ll also get a sense of what labor is really like as you watch several birth stories. You’ll even have an opportunity to create your own birth plan!

You can access the eClass from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection. Allow 6-8 hours to complete. You will have access for 9 months from the date you register.

Understanding Pregnancy eClass

Congratulations on your pregnancy! You have a lot to look forward to, and probably more than a few questions and concerns about what to expect over the coming months. Consider the Understanding Pregnancy eClass your go-to guide for answers you can trust. This interactive online eClass covers essential information on your baby’s development, helpful tips for a healthy pregnancy, and includes tips for partners and support people throughout.  You’ll see how your baby develops with 3D animation and have access to helpful trackers and checklists that help you stay organized and healthy. 

You can access the eClass from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection. Allow 3-4 hours to complete. You will have access for 9 months from the date you register.

Understanding Natural Childbirth Techniques eClass

Are you planning a birth with few to no medical interventions and prefer to learn online? Consider the Understanding Natural Childbirth Techniques eClass your go-to guide for answers you can trust on natural childbirth. This interactive online eClass builds on the information and skills you have already learned in a standard childbirth preparation class. You will discover the philosophy behind natural childbirth and learn ways to increase comfort through positioning, massage, breathing, and much more. 

You’ll also get a sense of natural childbirth as you watch several birth stories. You’ll even have an opportunity to create your own natural birth plan! 

You can access the eClass from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection. Allow 3-4 hours to complete. You will have access for 9 months from the date you register.

Making the decision to breastfeed is one of the best things you can do for your baby! As with any new experience, you probably have lots of questions. Consider the Understanding Breastfeeding eClass your go-to guide for answers. This interactive online course covers the essentials, including clear animation and plenty of video examples. You will also be able to track feedings with the included tracker! 

You can access the eClass from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection. Allow 2-4 hours to complete. You will have access for 9 months from the date you register.

Understanding Your Newborn eClass

Congratulations on your growing family! Since newborns don’t come with an owner’s manual, consider the Understanding Your Newborn eClass your go-to guide for infant care. This interactive online course covers essential information, including clear video examples of bathing, feeding and diapering, and lets you know when to call the doctor.  You will also stay organized with a variety of helpful checklists and trackers!  

You can access the eClass from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection. Allow 2-3 hours to complete. You will have access for 9 months from the date you register.

Understanding Infant & Child Safety eClass

Statistics that show infants and children are most often injured in homes and cars. This can be scary for any new parent. Do you know all the ways you can reduce your child’s risk of being hurt from a preventable accident? Learn life-saving information by taking this online safety class!

Spanning from infancy to early childhood, this eClass teaches car safety essentials, safe baby care, childproofing tips, accident prevention in and outside the home, and how to be better prepared for an emergency. Fun, interactive learning activities and instructive video clips help you learn about and apply essential safety guidelines.

You can access the eClass from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection. The class takes about 3 hours to complete. You will have access for 9 months from the date you register.

Understanding Fatherhood eClass

Preparing for fatherhood is no easy task. Men want to support their partners and new babies, but often feel lost and unsure about how to do that. This convenient, informative, and entertaining eClass was created for men (by men) to help them find their way on this unique journey. With a positive focus on the importance of being involved right from the start, you’ll learn how to support your partner through pregnancy and birth, as well as survival tips for those first few sleep-deprived months with a newborn. Integrated throughout the class are fun activities and video clips that share the relatable stories of real dads and advice from a fatherhood expert. You can access the eClass from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection. The class takes about 3 hours to complete. You will have access for 9 months from the date you register.

Understanding Sibling Preparation eClass

Growing your family? Help your child become a super sibling! This online sibling preparation eClass teaches you how to support your child (or children) as they grow into their roles of big brother or sister. You will learn how to answer tough questions, ways to help your child feel involved, how to reduce jealousy, and more. Plus, to encourage your sibling-to-be, there are fun lessons to do together, complete with kid-friendly video clips, coloring pages, and activities (recommended for ages 3-7). 

The class takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete. You will have access for 9 months from the date you register.

Understanding Grandparenting eClass

Expecting a grandchild? This eClass is for you! While birth and babies haven’t changed, what we know about them has. Now you can prepare yourself for your new role from the comfort of home. This interactive online class covers evidence-based changes in birth, breastfeeding, baby care, and infant safety, and it provides ways for new grandparents to offer support and assistance to the new family. In just a few hours you will learn what’s new, refresh what you already know, and feel more comfortable when called upon to help care for your grandchild. Get ready to take on one of life’s most rewarding roles!

The class takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete. You will have access for 9 months from the date you register.

Sequoia Hospital New Parent Support Group - Open to the Community!

The Sequoia Hospital New Parent Support Group is committed to offering new parents the opportunity to explore their role in a supportive environment that lays the foundation for raising healthy, caring, and responsible children. The group is designed to provide a forum for dialogue and exchange of ideas to help contribute to successful parenting.

What to Expect:

  • A Supportive and Welcoming Environment: This group is open to the community and provides a safe space for new parents to connect, share experiences, and find support during this incredible (and sometimes overwhelming!) journey.
  • Expert Guidance: The group is led by a Registered Nurse, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, who provides discussion topics and encourages group interaction.
  • Relevant Topics: We'll explore topics relevant to new parenthood, including newborn behavior, infant crying, postpartum blues, feeding issues, returning to work, and family adjustments.
  • Dialogue and Exchange of Ideas: This group is designed to provide a forum for dialogue and exchange of ideas to help contribute to successful parenting.
  • Connection and Community: Build lasting friendships with other parents who understand what you're going through.
