OXNARD, CA – (October 22, 2018) – In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the St. John’s Integrated Breast Center (IBC), invites community members to the 9th Annual Breast Symposium on Saturday, October 27. This highly anticipated and ever growing event brings together women, men, and families of all ages to learn from our medical experts and from one another about breast health.

The symposium will be held on Saturday, October 27 from 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Serra Center (5205 Upland Rd, Camarillo, CA 93012). The popular Up Close and Personal Breast Reconstruction breakout session begins at 9:00 a.m., while the official Welcoming is at 10:00 a.m.

During this FREE educational program, IBC specialists will discuss “Hot Topics” in breast health and breast cancer such as: nutrition, radiation therapy, treatment protocols, genetics, risk factors, imaging, breast reconstruction, and balancing life before, during and after a diagnosis. During the symposium, guests will have the opportunity to visit our expo booths offering free bone density tests and chair massages, plus educational information. Attendees will also have the chance to shop for skin and body care products, and jewelry. Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be served and participants will have a chance to win door prizes.

“When we started the breast symposium nine years ago, our goal was to educate our community on the team approach to breast cancer care. We also wanted to use this opportunity to talk about the latest in prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and research,” says Lynn Jeffers, MD, Medical Director of St. John’s Integrated Breast Center and Plastic Surgeon. “We are delighted to see how much our program has grown thanks to our supportive community and speakers, who create a unique, fun, and energizing event that we eagerly anticipate each year.”

St. John’s Breast Symposium has been an affiliate of Breast Reconstruction Awareness since the launch of BRA Day in the U.S. In addition, the Plastic Surgery Foundation has awarded St. John’s IBC with the Breast Recognition Public Awareness Grant. St. John's is one of 12 programs in the nation to receive such a distinction. This is a testament to St. John’s physicians, staff, and volunteers’ ongoing commitment to breast cancer care, research, and treatment.
