Our renowned team of neurologists offers specialized care for neurological conditions and disorders. St. John's Hospital Camarillo (SJHC) is an award-winning Certified Primary Stroke Center that includes a breadth of neurological care services to provide you and your loved ones with unparalleled care. Patients at our award-winning medical center benefit from our team approach to care, including interdisciplinary collaboration among neurologists, neurosurgeons, neurointerventional radiologists, acute rehabilitation specialists, and specially trained nurses. 

Center of Excellence

St. John’s Neuroscience Center of Excellence is a well-regarded program, in particular for the treatment of stroke. To continue providing the best care to the residents of Ventura County and beyond, we have expanded our program by adding a world class neuro-interventional biplane angiography system, as well as additional program enhancements to perform brain clot removal, aneurysm repair, carotid artery stenting, advanced brain and tumor removal and intracranial hemorrhage stoppage.

Certified Primary Stroke Center


St. John’s Hospital Camarillo is a Certified Primary Stroke Center. This certification recognizes stroke centers that make exceptional efforts to foster better outcomes for stroke care. This achievement also signifies that SJHC’s stroke program offers services with critical elements in a timely manner to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes for stroke patients.

In order to provide advance, comprehensive care for stroke patients, our stroke center includes:

  • Immediate access to neurologists specializing in stroke care within minutes of arrival in our ER
  • A dedicated stroke nurse practitioner to serve as an advocate for stroke patients
  • An acute stroke team
  • Faster turnaround times for CT scans and lab results to improve timeliness of treatment
  • Staff receive special training to care for stroke patients
  • Inpatient Acute Rehabilitation Program at our sister hospital, St. John's Regional Medical Center, in Oxnard

The team also relies on the excellent services of the Dignity Health pharmacy, Laboratory, and the Diagnostic Imaging Department.

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)

DBS is a surgical option for patients with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, and other movement disorders. DBS uses electrical signals targeting specific areas in the brain to control movement disorder symptoms. Now, St. John's hospitals makes it easier and faster for potential candidates to be seen by providing medical evaluation, psychological assessment, imaging, surgery, and post-surgical monitoring in one convenient location

Dignity Health Concussion Network

It is important for each athlete to know the signs and symptoms of a concussion and a potentially dangerous brain injury as well as the steps in the recovery process and in making a return-to-play decision. The Dignity Health Concussion Network is here to help every student athlete play safely.

Award-Winning Care

The Joint Commission has recognized St. John’s Hospital Camarillo as a Certified Primary Stroke Center for achieving at least 12 consecutive months of 85% or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines Stroke Achievement indicators.

Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke GOLD PLUS, 2021
Hospitals receiving Get With The Guidelines® Gold Plus Achievement Award have reached an aggressive goal of treating patients with 85% or higher compliance to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association® for three consecutive calendar years. In addition, those hospitals have demonstrated 75% compliance to (four out of ten heart failure quality measures or seven out of ten stroke quality measures) during the 12-month period.
 

Target: Stroke Honor Roll-Elite Plus, 2021
Door-to-needle times within 45 minutes for at least 75 percent of applicable patients and door-to-needle times within 30 minutes for at least 50 percent of applicable patients.
 

Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, 2021
This distinction acknowledges hospitals that aims to ensure patients with type 2 diabetes receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized with CVD or Stroke.
