Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital "Goes Pink" for Breast Cancer Awareness, Highlights Importance of Screenings
GRASS VALLEY, CALIF. OCTOBER 8, 2025 – Throughout October, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital (SNMH) will light up the hospital in a vibrant pink, joining a nationwide effort to honor breast cancer patients, survivors, and their loved ones during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. SNMH urges everyone in the community to prioritize their breast health, emphasizing the critical role of early detection.
When breast cancer is detected early and localized, the five-year survival rate is an encouraging 99%. SNMH and Dignity Health encourage proactive steps, including maintaining a healthy weight, limiting alcohol, and increasing physical activity, to help reduce risk. Regular screening and timely conversations with healthcare providers are paramount, with general guidelines recommending annual mammograms for women starting at age 40 or 45, tailored to individual risk factors.
To make screenings more approachable and less intimidating, the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation, in partnership with SNMH, sponsors the monthly Moonlight Mammogram screening series. This program provides an easy and relaxed environment for screenings. These events are monthly and the next is scheduled for October 23, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the SNMH Women’s Imaging Center in Building 4. Participants must call the Imaging Center to register for attendance; (530) 274-6246. The program is made possible by a generous grant from the Barbara Schmidt Millar Fund at the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital offers comprehensive breast health services, including advanced mammography screening and diagnostic care. The hospital invites the community to reflect on the importance of self-care and medical guidance throughout October and beyond.
