Dignity Health Mercy Medical Center Redding Celebrates 500th Heart Procedure Milestone with Stanford Health Care

Posted in:

REDDING, CA - November 10, 2025 – Dignity Health Mercy Medical Center Redding proudly announced the completion of the 500th heart procedure by the Stanford Medicine Cardiac Surgery Program at The Mercy Redding Heart Center on October 28, 2025. This milestone procedure was made possible by five years of successful collaboration. The affiliation with Stanford Health Care has provided critical cardiac surgery care to 500 North State patients since October 2020.

"This milestone is much more than a number; it represents 500 lives touched, 500 families supported and 500 instances where our community received exceptional care close to home," stated Todd Smith, President of Mercy Medical Center Redding (MMCR). "Our collaboration with Stanford Health Care means our patients benefit from the most advanced techniques and expertise without the added burden of long-distance travel during an already stressful time in their lives. This milestone truly embodies our commitment to bringing cutting-edge care to our region."

Patients at The Mercy Redding Heart Center benefit from a dedicated local team of affiliated, board-certified cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, offering a comprehensive range of advanced treatments including:

  • Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
  • Cardiac valve surgery
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery
  • Off-pump "beating heart" surgery

A cornerstone of the Heart Center's cardiac services is the invaluable affiliation and ongoing presence of two distinguished Stanford Medicine cardiothoracic surgeons, Dr. David Greentree and Dr. Minh Vu, who completed the 500th procedure.

"Achieving 500 cardiac procedures in the North State demonstrates the power of working together to bring advanced cardiovascular care to this community," said Dr. Greentree. "It's deeply rewarding to have a way to share our expertise in this area, especially with those patients who might otherwise face significant barriers to receiving specialized treatment. This milestone also highlights a shared commitment between Stanford Health Care and Mercy Medical Center Redding to improving and saving lives, one patient at a time."

The success of The Mercy Redding Heart Center's program is a result of the multi-disciplinary efforts of every team member. From highly skilled anesthesiologists, imaging specialists and surgical nurses, to dedicated support staff and all those who serve on the Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Cardiovascular Surgical Operating Room teams. This internal collaboration ensures comprehensive and intentional patient care, from initial diagnosis through surgical treatment and recovery, with each successful procedure reflecting the strength of the entire care team.
