Cindy Rosenberg, MSN, MBA

President

Cindy Rosenberg

Cindy Rosenberg is the President for Dignity Health Arizona General Hospital Laveen, Mesa and their 12 satellite emergency departments. She was the Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Nursing since 2018 before she became Interim President in November 2022 and president in 2023.

Cindy has more than 20 years of experience in health care with a focus on nursing and operations. She joined Dignity Health in 2006 as an emergency room nurse at Chandler Regional Medical Center and held other roles at Dignity Health Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert Medical Centers, including as Director of East Valley Facility Projects, Director of Nursing Support and Director of Medical and Surgical Services.

Cindy credits her focus on teamwork and accountability to the years she spent as an airman in the United States Air Force. She has master’s degrees in nursing and business administration from Grand Canyon University. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.


Aaron Mickelson, DO, MPH, MHM

Chief Medical Officer

Aaron Mickelson

Dr. Aaron Mickelson is the Chief Medical Officer for Dignity Health Arizona General Hospital Mesa and Laveen acute care hospitals and their associated 12 hospital satellite emergency departments. He oversees clinical operations and leads the hospital’s initiatives for quality care standards, patient safety, patient experience and resource utilization.

Dr. Mickelson assumed his role as Chief Medical Officer in April 2022 and was an emergency medicine physician with Arizona General since June 2020. Before joining Arizona General, he provided care and services at Dignity Health Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert Medical Centers as a member of Premier Emergency Medical Services. Dr. Mickelson started his career as a health unit coordinator at Barrow Neurological Institute at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.

Dr. Mickelson earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine and a master of public health from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. He holds a master of healthcare management from the University of Arizona.


Jackie Malamitsas, MSN-L, BS, RN, CNML

Chief Nursing Executive Officer, Vice President of Operations

Jackie Malamitsas

Jackie Malamitsas is the Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Operations for Arizona General Hospital Laveen, Mesa and their 12 satellite emergency departments. She has served on the AGH leadership team since 2018 and served as the Senior Director of Clinical Operations before she became Interim CNO in November 2022 and CNO/VP of Operations in 2023.

Jackie joined Dignity Health as Director of Emergency Services before being promoted to senior director of clinical operations.

She holds a master’s degree in nursing and several other certifications. She has been honored with two Experience Principles Awards and received an Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Jackie is a member of the American Nurses Association and an Aster Aging board member. She is dedicated to providing the best in patient care and service and is committed to creating a great work environment that fosters collaboration and professional development.


John Bauer, CPA, MBA

Chief Financial Officer

John Bauer

John Bauer is the Chief Financial Officer for Arizona General Hospital Laveen, Mesa, and its associated hospital satellite emergency departments. He provides financial oversight and assistance in meeting financial and strategic goals.

Since joining Dignity Health in 1995, John has held various positions of increased responsibility including Accountant at Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert Medical Centers as well as Senior Financial Analyst and Accounting Manager. He was Director of Accounting and Reporting for Dignity Health in Arizona, and most recently, Director of Financial Operations at St Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.

John received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Illinois State University and master’s degree in business administration from W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.

He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant, a Tempe Chamber of Commerce board member and treasurer of the 180th Field Artillery Regiment Association. John is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and was an adjunct faculty instructor for accounting and business within the Maricopa Community Colleges District.

John served over 23 years with the Army National Guard in field artillery and infantry including deployment to Afghanistan. He retired as a Command Sergeant Major with the 158th Infantry Battalion, Arizona Army National Guard.


Mario Valadez, Jr., MDIV

Market Vice President, Mission Integration

Mario Valadez

Mario Valadez is the Market Vice President of Mission Integration for Dignity Health in Arizona’s eastern region which includes Arizona General Hospital-Mesa. Mario previously served as Senior Director of Mission Integration for Dignity Health’s East Valley hospitals. He has been with Dignity Health for 15 years. Mario’s inspiration comes from our founding legacy of the Sisters of Mercy and their rich heritage in faith.

He earned his master of divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary with an emphasis in pastoral counseling. His love for tradition and heritage was nourished in the seminary’s 200-year-old history. Early on, he began writing reflections and montages of his rich chaplain experiences, and found a deeper admiration for the things of God and how we connect with these “things”and each other.

Mario is the proud father of four children and husband to Sarah.

In his spare time, Mario enjoys square-foot gardening, cultivating his urban orchard and spending time with his wife and kids. He also enjoys traveling, hiking, restaurants and beaches.


Margaret Mary McBride, RSM

Market Vice President, Mission Integration

Margaret Mary McBride

With more than 36 years of health care, Sister Margaret is a Sister of Mercy and began her career at St. Joseph’s as a nurse. She became Vice President of Mission Integration in 2000.

In her current role, she serves as Market Vice President for the west and central regions of Arizona, which includes Arizona General Hospital-Laveen. She leads mission integration, chaplain services, volunteer services, gift shop operations, and faith health ministries in our hospitals and health care centers. Prior to joining St. Joseph’s, Sister Margaret worked in health care facilities, a home care agency, and was an administrator for a retirement facility.

Sister Margaret has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of San Francisco. She also has a master of public administration from the University of San Francisco. She is a board member of Dignity Health Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield; Hospice of the Valley and Southwest Catholic Health Network (Mercy Care Plan).

 

 


Meet Our Emergency Room Medical Directors

Dignity Health – Arizona General Hospital is pleased to announce that it has appointed Paul McHale, MD and Jason Linder, MD as Hospital Emergency Room Medical Directors at Arizona General Hospital Laveen and Arizona General Hospital Mesa, respectively. It has also appointed Joel Betz, MD as Regional Medical Officer overseeing Arizona General Hospitals satellite ERs. In these new roles, Drs. McHale, Linder, and Betz will provide leadership and direction to the emergency rooms of the Arizona General Hospitals and will also serve on the executive team.

Joel Betz, MD

Dr. Betz brings over 15 years of clinical and leadership experience to this position. He graduated from Arizona State University in 2002 and then attended University of Arizona School of Medicine graduating in 2006. After medical school he completed residency in Emergency Medicine at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Betz is board certified in Emergency Medicine by the American College of Emergency Physicians. After residency Dr. Betz joined the group covering Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert Medical Centers. Three years later he joined Banner Gateway Emergency Dept. as Assistant Medical Director. Subsequently, Banner Health acquired Banner Payson Medical Center, and Dr Betz served as Medical Director during the transition and for 2 years following, after which he returned to the Phoenix metro area joining the Adeptus and Dignity family. Currently he serves as Regional Medical Officer East Valley, based at the AGH Mesa Hospital location.


Jason Linder, MD

Dr. Linder is a graduate of the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri (1996). In 2000, he completed his residency at Maricopa Medical Center, Phoenix, AZ and is board certified in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He is also trained in Hyperbaric Medicine.

Dr. Linder has an extensive clinical, teaching, and leadership background. He brings with him over 25 years of experience. Previously Dr. Linder served as Associate Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at Indiana University (2000-2003). He also was a former partner in Chandler Emergency Medical Group where he served as Medical Director of the Emergency Department (2006-2009) and Medical Executive Committee Member at Large (2009-2012) at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, and Department Chair of Emergency Medicine (2013-2015) at Chandler Regional Medical Center. Most recently Dr. Linder has served at CRMC and MGMC as Vice Chief of Staff (2017, 2018) and Medical Staff President (2019, 2020). His other roles include: Member of the Ethics Committee (2004-2013) CRMC and MGMC; CRMC (2008-2012), and Track and Mass Gathering Physician, Phoenix International Raceway (1998-Present). 


Paul McHale, MD

Dr. McHale is a graduate of Univ. of San Diego (1991), University of Minnesota Medical School (1996) and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ in 2000. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and trained in Hyperbaric Medicine.

Dr. McHale was a founding partner of Chandler Emergency Medical Group, PLC (PEMS), formed in 2002. PEMS provided clinical physicians & support for the Emergency Departments at Chandler Regional Medical Center & Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. During the last 18 years Dr. McHale has helped lead ER Redesign teams in 2005 & 2014, helped implement a scribe program, served as EMS Director (03-05), Medical Director at CRMC ED (05-09, 14-15), Chairman of ED at CRMC (09-13).  He also served on the East Valley Community Board (08-19) including serving as Vice Chair (14-16) and Chairman (16-18).

Dr. McHale is also employed by Air Methods Corporation as a Medical Director for several bases in the Arizona service region, from 2009 - Present.  He has also served as a Clinician for Gallus Detox (15-17) & interim Medical Director for BCBS AZ (18-19). Currently, he also serves as Medical Director, and is a minority owner in Trinity Air Medical, a logistics healthcare company based in Tempe, AZ (13-Present).
