Dignity Health’s Sequoia Hospital and Dominican Hospital each earn 5 stars in latest CMS quality rankings

REDWOOD CITY & SANTA CRUZ, CA (September 2, 2025) – Dignity Health’s Sequoia Hospital, Redwood City, and Dominican Hospital, Santa Cruz, each earned 5 stars—the highest designation— in the latest 2025 Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released August 7. The two Bay Area Dignity Health hospitals are part of the larger CommonSpirit Health system.

The ratings, ranging from 1 to 5 stars, summarize a hospital's performance across 46 quality measures in five areas: Mortality, Safety of Care, Readmission, Patient Experience, and Timely and Effective Care; and are designed to help patients and families make informed healthcare decisions based on standardized quality measures.

Dignity Health’s Sequoia Hospital has received 5 stars in these rankings each year since 2020, while Dominican Hospital has received 4 or 5 stars each survey since 2020. Both hospitals’ rankings are higher than national CMS averages.
