Volunteering at St. John's
OXNARD, CA – (December 11, 2018) – The Integrated Breast Center at St. John’s (IBC), a Dignity Health member, recently received a $30,000 grant from Sientra FULL CIRCLE. This recognition is only awarded to eight programs in the nation. Grant funds will be used to expand current Integrated Breast Center outreach, and help launch this program at St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital (SJPVH) in Camarillo.
“We are honored to see our commitment to patient and quality care being recognized by Sientra,” said Lynn Jeffers, MD, Medical Director of the Integrated Breast Center at St. John’s. “This FULL CIRCLE grant improves the quality of life for our patients and will enhance our mission to provide accredited, patient-centered, multidisciplinary services in Ventura County.”
Known as the most common cancer, breast cancer is the second leading cause of death for women in the United States. In light of the great need, the IBC became the first accredited center, in West Ventura County, to be recognized by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a Quality program of the American College of Surgeons. In addition to, the IBC offers nurse navigation, nutrition and social work counseling, rehabilitation, support groups, prostheses, and relaxation therapy.
In response to the IBC’s quality program and services, Sientra awarded this $30,000 gift through their inaugural year of the FULL CIRCLE grant, which aids U.S. based breast cancer organizations working towards furthering breast cancer aid, patient outreach, and prevention. FULL CIRCLE grants are reviewed by a team of board-certified plastic surgeons, who are committed to breast cancer research, patient advocacy, and outcomes. The foundation aims to award funds to nonprofit organizations who share their same values in making a difference in the breast cancer community.
“We are extremely grateful to Sientra for their continuous support and generosity,” said Darren W. Lee, President and CEO, St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital and St. John’s Regional Medical Center. “Thanks to their support, our Integrated Breast Center at St. John’s will be able to further enhance the quality of care delivered to patients with breast disease in our community.”
The IBC at St. John’s is comprise of a highly specialized multidisciplinary team: breast specialists, physicians, oncology nurses, and therapists, who provide integrated oncology care to the community.
