Dignity Health Chandler Regional Set to Expand Again

Hospital Responds to Growing Community's Increasing Health Care Demands

Dignity Health Candler Regional Medical Center is set to undertake another extensive expansion project in order to meet the growing demand for health care in the East Valley.

Later this year, Chandler Regional is expected to break ground on a new campus building project which should be completed in 2022. The project will involve constructing a new five-story patient-care tower and a new parking structure with additional surface parking to accommodate over 1100 vehicles. In addition to the new construction, renovations to existing space will also allow for eight new surgical suites, and expansions of key outpatient services and operational departments.

“This expansion is a direct result of the outstanding care our team provides. Their hard work and dedication are why people seek services at Chandler Regional and why the hospital is undergoing tremendous growth,” says Mark Slyter, president and CEO of Dignity Health Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert Medical Centers.

The first part of the expansion project will be extra surface parking and a new parking structure to better accommodate patients, visitors and staff.

Then, expected by 2021, the new patient care structure called “Tower D” will create space for 132 additional patient beds. It will bring the hospital’s total bed count to 429, relieving current capacity constraints. Tower D will be built south of Chandler Regional’s main entrance in what is currently a parking area.

Chandler Regional first opened in1961 as a true community hospital with only 40 beds, but has steadily grown over the last 5 decades. Less than four years ago, Chandler Regional opened its newest patient tower, Tower C, which provided space for the hospital’s Level One Trauma Center and 96 additional patient beds.

“We’re excited to see what our team will accomplish as we prepare for the next evolution of growth on campus,” adds Jeff McBee, Chandler Regional’s Vice President of Operations who is also serving as the hospital’s project lead. “We also expect this long-term expansion project will bring more than 200 job opportunities at Dignity Health to the East Valley.”

Devenney Group and McCarthy have been selected as the project’s design and build team.
