Sequoia Hospital Receives 5th Consecutive ‘A’ for Patient Safety in Fall 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

Posted in:

REDWOOD CITY, CA (Nov. 8, 2018) – Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital has received a fifth consecutive ‘A’ grade from The Leapfrog Group for its efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S.

The Leapfrog Group is a national organization committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients in their care.

“At Sequoia, we have gone the extra step to make sure safety is a priority in every aspect of patient care – from housekeeping to surgery,” said Sequoia Hospital President Bill Graham. “We are so pleased to have received one of the highest Leapfrog grades on the Peninsula, and we take pride in providing exceptional care to our community.”

Developed under the guidance of a National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

This recognition is the latest of several Sequoia Hospital has received recently. Sequoia also received honors from Healthgrades for quality care in cardiac valve surgery, treatment of heart failure, spinal fusion surgery, treatment of stroke, treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and treatment of pneumonia. Additionally, Sequoia’s patient experience scores routinely top the 90th percentile nationwide.
