SAN FRANCISCO, CA (Dec. 4, 2018) – Highlighting its nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality, Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital was named a Top General Hospital by The Leapfrog Group. Sequoia is one of only 35 hospitals nationwide to receive this honor.
The Top Hospital Award comes following the hospital’s fifth consecutive “A” Hospital Safety Grade, also from The Leapfrog Group.
“Quality and safety are the highest priorities for the caregivers and staff at Sequoia Hospital, and we’re very pleased to receive consistent recognition from The Leapfrog Group,” said Sequoia Hospital President Bill Graham. “We are committed to providing the best possible care for our community.”
Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, maternity care, and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.
To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must submit a Leapfrog Hospital Survey and achieve highest performance in its category. The selection of Top Hospitals 2018 is based on surveys from nearly 1,900 hospitals. To see the full list of institutions honored as 2018 Top Hospitals, visit www.leapfroggroup.org/tophospitals.
This recognition is the latest of several Sequoia Hospital has received recently. Sequoia also received honors from Healthgrades for quality care in cardiac valve surgery, treatment of heart failure, spinal fusion surgery, treatment of stroke, treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and treatment of pneumonia. Additionally, Sequoia’s patient experience scores routinely top the 90th percentile nationwide.
Founded in 2000 by large employers and other purchasers, The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for giant leaps forward in the quality and safety of American health care. The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey collects and transparently reports hospital performance, empowering purchasers to find the highest-value care and giving consumers the lifesaving information they need to make informed decisions. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, Leapfrog’s other main initiative, assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their record of patient safety, helping consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections.
