Sequoia Hospital Receives Sixth Consecutive ‘A’ for Patient Safety in Spring 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade Awards

Posted in:

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (May 15, 2019) – Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital has received a sixth consecutive ‘A’ grade from The Leapfrog Group for its efforts to protect patients from harm and meet the highest safety standards in the U.S.

The Leapfrog Group is a national organization committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients in their care.

“At Sequoia, safety is our overriding priority in every aspect of patient care—from housekeeping and food service, to clinical care and surgery,” said Sequoia Hospital President Bill Graham. “We are so pleased to have one of the best Leapfrog records on the Peninsula—demonstrating that Sequoia provides our community with truly exceptional, quality-driven care.”

Developed under the guidance of a National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

This recognition is the latest of several Sequoia Hospital has received recently. Sequoia received another 5-Star Star Overall Hospital Rating, the highest possible, for the quality of its care from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Only 293 hospitals nationwide received a 5-star rating. Sequoia received honors from Healthgrades for excellence in the areas of cardiac care, orthopedics, stroke, and pulmonary services—as well as recognition for being among the top 10 percent in the nation for pulmonary care. The hospital also received the highest possible rating for Isolated Mitral Valve Repair and Replacement from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
