Sequoia earned a “High Performing” ranking in ten categories

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (July 27, 2021) Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital today announced that it has been included in the annual U.S. News & World Report 2021-22 Best Hospitals rankings. The hospital ranked #4 in the San Francisco region and #32 in the state, and was recognized as “High Performing” in ten clinical categories: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair, Aortic Valve Surgery, Heart Bypass Surgery, Congestive Heart Failure, Pneumonia, Kidney Failure, Back Surgery (spinal fusion), Hip Replacement, Hip Fracture and Knee Replacement.

“In a region rich with world-class health care providers, we are proud to stand out among the top tier,” said Bill Graham, Sequoia Hospital President. “The past year and a half has been truly unprecedented, and through all of it, our team has given so much of themselves to ensure that our community receives the vital care they desperately need. Our physicians, nurses, technicians and staff are responsible for this prestigious accomplishment.”

To create the annual Best Hospitals list, U.S. News & World Report conducted a rigorous national assessment of data from nearly 5,000 medical centers and survey responses from more than 30,000 physicians to rank hospitals in 15 adult speciality areas including cancer, cardiology, orthopedics, diabetes and more. Survival rates, patient experience, specialized staff and advanced technologies were among the factors weighed. Nationally, only 175 hospitals ranked in at least one of the specialties in 2021-22.

The annual rankings and ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for common elective procedures, as well as challenging health conditions. The U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals methodologies are based largely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume, and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.

“We are honored to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a Best Hospital,” said Dieter Bruno, MD, Sequoia Hospital Chief Medical Officer. “At Sequoia, our commitment to patient safety and clinical excellence is uncompromising. This meticulous attention to detail, our successful outcomes, and the positive patient experience we provide are what sets us apart in our patients’ minds.”

This recognition is one of many Sequoia Hospital has received recently. Sequoia received a 5-star rating, the highest possible, for the quality of its care from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Sequoia also recently received an ‘A’ grade from Leapfrog Group for patient safety and quality care, and the 2020 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ from Healthgrades.
