Sequoia Hospital Announces Grants to 30 Local Nonprofits

Nearly $140,000 in grants awarded to San Mateo County organizations

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (D)ec. 13, 2019 –Through seven local collaboratives, Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital will provide nearly $140,000 in funding to 30 community-based organizations to support the health and wellness of San Mateo County families, youth, and individuals who are most in need. The grants were presented during an awards ceremony at Sequoia Hospital today.

“Each of these organizations has a proven track record of affecting change both meaningful and measurable for the most vulnerable populations in our community,” said Bill Graham, Sequoia Hospital President. “We are so proud to be collaborating with them to improve the quality of life in San Mateo County.”

By providing funding to collaboratives of nonprofit organizations, Sequoia Hospital is able to leverage their individual strengths and maximize impact for the neediest in the community.

The 2020 Grantees:

Collaborative Counseling and Transition Program offers direct psychotherapy services to at- risk youth in San Mateo County Court and Community Schools. Grants were awarded to:

  • Acknowledge Alliance – Lead Agency
  • Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula
  • San Mateo County Probation Department
  • San Mateo Office of Education
  • Sequoia Union High School District

Familias Unidas/Families United Parent Engagement Workshop teaches parents how to support their children in achieving success, focusing on academic, social emotional, and physical aspects of a healthy life. Grants were awarded to:

  • United Through Education (Familias Unidas) – Lead Agency
  • Redwood City Public Library
  • Redwood City School District

Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) Program provides critically needed support services to unsheltered people in San Mateo County. Grants were awarded to:

  • Lifemoves – Lead Agency
  • Fair Oaks Community Center
  • Redwood City Police Department
  • San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS)
  • San Mateo Medical Center

San Mateo Specialty Care Access and Delivery Program coordinates donated surgical and specialty care for uninsured people in San Mateo County. Grants were awarded to:

  • Operation Access – Lead Agency
  • Kaiser Permanente, Redwood City
  • Rotacare Coastside
  • Samaritan House Medical Clinics
  • Sutter Health

Sonrisas Dental Health School Screening Program focuses on the unmet dental health-related needs of vulnerable student populations by providing access to quality dental care and oral health education through mobile teams of dentists, hygienists, and assistants using portable equipment. Grants were awarded to:

  • Sonrisas Dental Health – Lead Agency
  • Redwood City School District
  • Samaritan House

Teen and Family Mental/Behavioral Health and Emotional Wellbeing supports the mental health and other vital needs of newcomers. Grants were awarded to:

  • One Life Wellness Center – Lead Agency
  • Friends for Youth
  • Generations United
  • Redwood City Police Activities League

Whole Health for Youth Initiative aims to improve youth mental health and wellness through coordinated prevention and early intervention services. Grants were awarded to:

  • Friends for Youth – Lead Agency
  • One Life
  • Redwood City Police Activities League
  • Siena Youth Center
  • Star Vista
