Sequoia Hospital Offers Faster More Accurate Diagnostic Imaging

Posted in:
Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital now offers 128-slice computed tomography (CT) scans to diagnose medical conditions and diseases throughout the body.
This ultra-fast, 3D, state-of-the-art diagnostic system delivers lower radiation doses while capturing crosssectional internal body images in minute detail.

The benefits of this new technology are substantial. The high-speed scanner generates exceptionally detailed images of the body in a matter of seconds. Due to its speed and other new technology, patients spend less time on the CT table with significantly less exposure to radiation.

"Sequoia is committed to making a healthy difference in our patients' lives," said Sequoia Hospital President Bill Graham. "By offering this safer, more accurate, and convenient diagnostic imaging technology, we are making good on that promise."

"This new scanner is directly adjacent to the Emergency Department for faster patient diagnosis in critical situations," said Michael Hollett, MD, director of Diagnostic Imaging/Radiology at Sequoia Hospital. "The scanner also allows for substantial reduction in radiation dose for every patient."

Sequoia's Heart and Vascular Institute, which is affiliated with the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic Heart & Vascular Institute, will leverage this technology for its interventional radiology services.

"Physicians at Sequoia Hospital emphasize appropriate use and minimal radiation exposure when employing CT scanning to evaluate patients with cardiac disease," said Nellis Smith, MD, director of Cardiac CT at Sequoia Hospital. "This 128-slice CT scanner is not only faster, but image quality is improved with lower radiation doses. Very few cardiac patients now require an invasive procedure for diagnosis and evaluation, and this technology will even further expand the uses for cardiac CT."

In addition to cardiac CT, the new 128-slice CT scanner also will be used for the head, lung, soft tissue, extremity, and abdominal and pelvic imaging. Sequoia's Diagnostic Imaging/Radiology Department also provides 3D digital mammography, echocardiography, MRI, ultrasound, X-ray, and vascular ultrasound.
