Central Coast and San Luis Obispo Gardens Offer Free Lecture Series to Women

Dignity Health of the Central Coast and the San Luis Obispo Botanical Gardens invite members of the community to attend a free three part lecture series throughout the remainder of the year titled "Nurture your Health: Planting the Seeds of Prevention for Women's Health."

The first lecture will be on Saturday, May 18, 2013, and focused on bone and hormone health. Mary Oates, M.D. will be speaking about ways to prevent osteoporosis and how to decrease symptoms of hormone imbalance. Topics discussed at this lecture will include: diet, exercise, meditation, screenings, psychosocial health, and much more. Dr. Mary Oates is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician with Dignity Health of the Central Coast and the Medical Director of the Osteoporosis Resource Centers located at French Hospital Medical Center and Marian Regional Medical Center. Aaron Kromhout, M.D. will also be speaking at this lecture about hormone health. Dr. Kromhout is a board-certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist. He is also the owner of Creating Harmony Women’s Healthcare in San Luis Obispo. 

The second lecture will be on Saturday, July 20, 2013. This lecture will inform community members about the connection between the mind, body and spirit and how it relates to cancer prevention. Brian DiCarlo, M.D. will be discussing how factors such as sun protection, diet and exercise can prevent cancer. Dr. Brian DiCarlo is Board Certified and Fellowship trained in Hematology and Medical Oncology. As an associate of San Luis Obispo’s Coastal Integrative Cancer Care, Dr. DiCarlo treats those with cancer and hematology disorders. 

The final lecture will take place on Saturday, September 14, 2013 and will be about happy and healthy hearts. Award-winning author Mara Purl will be discussing her best-seller, What the Heart Knows. Drs. Fletcher and Tackett will be discussing ways to prevent cardiovascular disease. Purl, author, producer and actress, will also be doing a book-signing at the end of the lecture. Fletcher and Tackett are cardiologists with Dignity Health of the Central Coast.

Each lecture will be located at the Oak Glen Pavilion at the San Luis Obispo Botanical Gardens, 3450 Dairy Creek Road. Registration and the continental breakfast begin at 8:30 A.M. and the program will take place from 9-12. Registration is required and can be done by calling the Hearst Cancer Research Center at FHMC at (805) 542-6234.
