Letter from Taimur Chaudhry, MD, Program Director
Thank you for your interest in Marian’s Ob-Gyn Residency Program. Since we are only a couple of years old, we currently have a PGY-1 and PGY-2 class with a total of 6 residents. In other words, if you are applying for a position to start in July 2020, we will be considering you for our third ever cohort of interns. Because we don’t have an established history, let me share our vision with you and explain why we decided to start our own Ob-Gyn Residency.
The big picture is that both nationally and in our local region along the Central Coast of California, there is an increasing shortage of Ob-Gyns. Knowing this, Marian made the commitment to our community that we would train exceptional doctors in our field with a vision to continue to serve our patients. Importantly, one of our core values is to serve the poor and disenfranchised, and this priority is reflected in how we train our students and residents.
Clinically speaking, our patients need well-trained obstetricians who can care for both uncomplicated and high risk pregnancies. We also see a broad range of gynecologic pathologies that frequently require surgical intervention, so we are committed to training expert surgeons who can safely operate on our patients.
Finally, we are committed to training clinicians with the skills necessary to become leaders in education, patient advocacy, community outreach, continuous quality improvement or any other areas of resident interest. The expectation is that graduates of our program will be prepared to serve our local community, or, if they so choose, to care for patients in any other parts of the country where Ob-Gyns are needed.
If this vision appeals to you, then I would encourage you to apply to our residency. And should you match at our program, it would be my privilege and responsibility to mentor you to ensure that we achieve your individual professional goals as we work to fulfill our broader mission.
