This program is designed for high school students between the ages of 14 through 17 years old, who are interested in exploring careers in healthcare. This popular program is a great way to develop new skills, meet new people, observe caring professionals, and better compete for college scholarships.
The Summer Junior Volunteer Program begins the week of June 15, 2020 and runs for 4 weeks through July 10, 2020. Volunteers will be required to complete a minimum of 16 hours during the program (one 4-hour shift per week). Since the program has been shortened to 4 weeks this summer, you will be required to honor this commitment. If you can’t do that, you won’t be accepted into the program.
At Dignity Health, Junior Volunteers help with various tasks around the hospital, including helping in the nursing areas, answering phones at the information desk, assisting with miscellaneous office duties, making patient beds and helping visitors and patients get around our campus. This experience offers the opportunity for teens to gain self-confidence and improve their communication skills, while making a difference in people’s lives.
During this session students will get a glimpse into the many healthcare professions and hear first-hand from Dignity Health doctors, nurses and other medical professionals about what it takes to succeed in the healthcare industry. We encourage you to participate in this four hour session in addition to your 16 hour summer commitment. You will be notified of the 3 options to attend this session at a later time.
Students are placed in service areas based on the needs of the hospital as well as their availability. Minimum requirement for the program is 16 hours (one 4-hour shift per week for 4 weeks).
To be considered for the program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
