Rajakrishnan Vijayakrishnan, MD, is the Medical Director of Center for Advanced Heart Failure and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. He is board certified in Advanced Heart Failure/Transplant and Cardiovascular Disease.

Dr. Vijayakrishnan specializes in cardiomyopathies including end stage systolic heart failure, cardiogenic shock, heart transplants and mechanical circulatory support devices including both temporary as well as durable devise like left ventricular assist devices. He works in tandem with the Structural Heart Program at St Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.

He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Cardiovascular Disease and the American Board of Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology.

Dr. Vijayakrishnan earned his medical degree from the University of Kerala in India and Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Biophysics from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, one of the premier medical institutes in Asia. He completed internal medicine training at the St Vincent Hospital, Worcester, MA, followed by cardiovascular medicine fellowship at Geisinger Medical Center. He subsequently completed advanced heart failure and transplant fellowship at University of Utah/Intermountain Medical Center, Utah. Dr. Vijayakrishnan was a member of the faculty at University of Louisville and Assistant Medical Director of Advanced Heart Failure, Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program at Jewish Hospital for four years before relocating to Arizona to lead advanced heart failure/MCS program at St. Joseph’s.
