Sequoia Hospital Ranks Fifth in Region on the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals Rankings 2020-21

Sequoia earned a "High Performing" ranking in seven categories

REDWOOD CITY, CA (August 4, 2020) –  Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital today announced that it has been included in the annual U.S. News & World Report 2020-21 Best Hospitals rankings. The hospital ranked #5 in the San Francisco region and #27 in the state, and was recognized as “High Performing” in seven clinical categories: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair, Aortic Valve Surgery, Heart Bypass Surgery, Congestive Heart Failure, Colon Cancer Surgery, Hip Replacement, and Knee Replacement.

“In a region rich with world-class health care providers, we are proud to stand out among the top tier,” said Bill Graham, Sequoia Hospital President. “Each day, I witness the seamless collaboration and sincere compassion the Sequoia Hospital caregiver team provides to our community. They are responsible for this prestigious accomplishment.”

To create the annual Best Hospitals list, U.S. News & World Report conducted a rigorous national assessment of data from nearly 5,000 medical centers and survey responses from more than 30,000 physicians to rank hospitals in 16 adult specialties including cancer, cardiology, diabetes, rheumatology and more. Survival rates, patient experience, specialized staff and advanced technologies were among the factors weighed. Nationally, only 134 hospitals ranked in at least one of the specialties in 2020-21.

The annual rankings and ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for common elective procedures, as well as challenging health conditions. The U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals methodologies are based largely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume, and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.

“We are honored to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a Best Hospital,” said Dieter Bruno, MD, Sequoia Hospital Chief Medical Officer. “At Sequoia, our commitment to patient safety and clinical excellence is uncompromising. This meticulous attention to detail, our successful outcomes, and the positive patient experience we provide are what sets us apart in our patients’ minds.”

This recognition is one of many Sequoia Hospital has received recently. Sequoia received a 5-star rating, the highest possible, for the quality of its care from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Sequoia also recently received its seventh consecutive ‘A’ grade from Leapfrog Group for patient safety and quality care, and the 2020 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ and the 2020 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ from Healthgrades.
