Sequoia Hospital Receives 7th Consecutive ‘A’ for Patient Safety in Fall 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

National recognition also honors Sequoia as a "Straight A" hospital

REDWOOD CITY, CA (Nov. 7, 2019) –  Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital has received a seventh consecutive ‘A’ grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national recognition of the hospital’s achievements protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care. Sequoia also received designation as a “Straight A” hospital.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization driven by employers and other purchasers of health care committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to all general hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

“Simply put, patient safety is the number one priority for all the staff and caregivers at Sequoia,” said Sequoia Hospital President Bill Graham. “High-quality, safe care delivered with humankindness is the commitment we make to our community every day.”

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

This recognition is the latest of several Sequoia Hospital has received recently. Sequoia also received honors from Healthgrades for quality care in treatment of heart failure, stroke, and sepsis. Additionally, Sequoia was voted a “Best Hospital” and, for 10 straight years, a “Best Birth Center” by readers of Bay Area Parent magazine.
