SAN FRANCISCO (January 12, 2021) — CommonSpirit Health today announced that Dr. Todd Strumwasser has assumed additional responsibilities and duties as President of the newly expanded Northern California Division.

The new Northern California Division now includes 13 Dignity Health hospitals and ancillary facilities, including four in the Bay Area (San Francisco, Redwood City and Santa Cruz); three in the North State (Redding, Red Bluff and Mt. Shasta); and as of January 3, 2021, six hospitals in the Sacramento area (formerly known as the Greater Sacramento Division).

Todd Strumwasser “Dr. Strumwasser has shown extraordinary leadership throughout his career at Dignity Health,” said Marvin O’Quinn, president and chief operating officer of CommonSpirit Health, parent company of Dignity Health. “As a mission-driven and faith-based organization, CommonSpirit Health is focused on the health of our communities, inside and outside of our facility walls. In this expanded role, Dr. Strumwasser is well-positioned to help coordinate the delivery of innovative care, scale clinical best practices and pursue growth opportunities that help us have an even greater impact in the communities we serve.”

Dr. Strumwasser joined Dignity Health in 2015 as senior vice president of operations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

As a physician executive, Dr. Strumwasser’s highest priorities are improving safety practices and patient experience. Dr. Strumwasser led efforts on both fronts in the Bay Area, resulting in Sequoia Hospital receiving some of the highest patient experience scores in the nation, and all four Bay Area hospitals twice receiving ‘A’ grades for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group.

Before joining Dignity Health, Dr. Strumwasser spent 27 years at Swedish Health Services in Seattle as chief of staff, chief operating officer, and chief executive. A board certified anesthesiologist, Dr. Strumwasser received his doctor of medicine from the University of Southern California and completed his residency at University of Washington Affiliated Hospitals, where he served as chief resident. He has also completed a certificate in executive development at the University of Washington, Keck School of Business.
