Alameda County Medical Center - Highland Hospital

Highland Hospital opened its doors to the community in 1927, and has always provided an assured source of care for all Alameda County residents, regardless of ability to pay. With the opening of the Koret Foundation Critical Care and Clinical Center in 2004, ACMC offers a modern, attractive and well-equipped facility for emergency care, outpatient visits, surgery and other services. Highland is a 236 licensed bed acute care hospital in Oakland, which fulfills a number of unique roles in the community. Highland Hospital provides:

• Alameda County's major source of acute care for medically indigent and uninsured patients. 
  
  
• The Trauma Center for northern Alameda County. Trauma Center designation means that Highland is staffed and equipped to respond to any major physical injury, at any hour of day, any day of the year. Almost every adult in the greater Oakland area who suffers a traumatic injury and is transported by ambulance comes to Highland, regardless of what insurance plan or HMO he or she may belong to. 
  
  
• The busiest Emergency Department in the county, with some 80,000 visits annually. 
  
  
• The only Obstetric service in the city of Oakland that is available to all pregnant women in the county. 
  
  
• A comprehensive array of medical specialty clinics, treating conditions from Allergy to Urology. 

Highland Hospital complies with California and Federal standards for acute care hospitals. In 2006 the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) renewed its accreditation of Highland and ACMC's other hospital campuses for a period of three years.
