Our Dignity Health Medical Group–Bakersfield primary care physicians and specialists provide quality care for the entire family at every stage, from infants and adolescents to adults and seniors. Grimm Children’s Pavilion for Emergency Services, the area’s only dedicated children’s ER at Memorial Hospital—we’re here to help 24/7. We also offer Online Waiting Room* powered by InQuicker™, so you can select an estimated ER arrival time online and wait in the comfort of home until it’s time to come in.

Heart & Vascular Care

Our board-certified cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons are dedicated to helping you keep your heart strong and healthy. The Sarvanand Heart & Brain Center at Memorial Hospital provides highly-specialized care, including the latest diagnostic testing and treatment options, such as endovascular catheter-based heart valve replacement and repair, treatment for atrial fibrillation (AFib), and the latest treatment approaches to aortic aneurysms and carotid artery disease.

Orthopedic Care

Our orthopedic specialists focus on joints, spine, tendons, muscles, bones, and nerves. Our hospitals offer the latest in robotic surgery, including Mako robotic-arm assisted surgery, an innovative technology that allows surgeons to create 3D models of joints and build custom-fit hip and knee replacements. Memorial Hospital also offers ExcelsiusGPS®, a robotic surgical navigation technology that enables next-level precision in minimally invasive spine surgery. Cancer Care

Dignity Health and Comprehensive Blood & Cancer Center (CBCC) believe the best way to treat cancer is with a team of experts, the latest technology, individualized support, leading-edge clinical research, and tailored treatment options. CBCC is nationally accredited by the American College of Radiology and National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, and is also a research partner of UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center TRIO-US, providing local access to the latest clinical trials. Additionally, Mercy Hospital Downtown is home to the area’s only dedicated inpatient cancer care unit staffed with oncology-certified nurses who have specialized knowledge and expertise in caring for patients with cancer.

Pediatric Care

Dignity Health recognizes that children are not simply small adults—they have their own set of unique health care needs that are best addressed by pediatric specialists. The Lauren Small Children’s Center at Memorial Hospital was established in response to the growing demand for pediatric health care services in Kern County. The Center, supported by the Children’s Miracle Network®, includes a 35-bed pediatric unit, the area’s only pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), Kern County’s largest Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), and the Robert A. Grimm Children’s Pavilion for Emergency Services, the region’s only dedicated pediatric emergency department.

Neurological Care

The renowned team of neurologists at Memorial Hospital offers up-to-date expertise in a variety of conditions and disorders affecting the brain. Among conditions our specialists treat include stroke, epilepsy, vascular disease of the nervous system, and spine conditions. Additionally, Memorial Hospital earned Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center certification for advanced stroke treatment from The Joint Commission and is home to Kern County’s only neurological critical care unit. All three of our Bakersfield hospitals have also been designated as Primary Stroke Centers by The Joint Commission.

Weight Loss Surgery

Mercy Hospitals’ Surgical Weight Loss Program offers a comprehensive approach to bariatric surgery. From an introductory education session and physician consultation, to nutrition counseling and weight loss surgery, all the way through post­-surgery support, our physicians and care team are with our patients every step of the way. Our program is backed by national accreditation from the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBSAQIP), underscoring our collaborative approach to weight loss surgery and our efforts in providing our patients tools for lifelong success.

Burn Care

The S.A. Camp Companies Burn Unit at Memorial Hospital is part of the renowned Grossman Burn Center, recognized nationally for its pioneering techniques in burn care. The burn unit is the only of its kind in Kern County and includes a seven-bed inpatient burn unit, catastrophic burn care, pediatric intensive care burn services, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, as well as an outpatient clinic. All burn injuries that come in through Memorial Hospital’s ER and children’s ER are seen by burn specialists.

Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery

Advances in health care have led to breakthroughs in robotic and minimally invasive surgery. We are proud to offer the latest technologies and surgical procedures at our three hospital campuses that allow our patients to experience less pain and recover more quickly when compared to traditional surgery. We have invested in the da Vinci® Xi Robotic Surgery System, ExcelsiusGPS®, and Mako. The S.A. Camp Companies Robotic Surgical Center located at Mercy Hospital Downtown specializes in robotic and minimally invasive surgery across multiple specialties. Our Mercy Hospitals have also received nationally-recognized Center of Excellence designations from Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) in colorectal surgery, hernia surgery, robotic surgery, minimally invasive gynecology, and minimally invasive surgery.
