Health Care experts and organizations to join in “Stepping Up!” for Women’s Health

Posted in:

SAN ANDREAS, CA, October 7, 2020 – Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) is bringing together local physical and mental health experts for a unique, online workshop to discuss women’s issues, available local services and resources which should not be overlooked during the pandemic.

The Stepping Up! for Women’s Health virtual workshop will be held via Zoom at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29. It is easy to register.

MTMC President and CEO Doug Archer notes, “It’s important not to overlook significant, everyday health issues as we continue navigating pandemic impacts and challenges. This workshop is presented with that in mind – focusing on key elements of women’s physical AND mental health. We believe that everyone has a woman in their life that could benefit from what we will learn and share with each other during this special one hour online event. ”

He adds, “October is probably best known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month – a movement MTMC has actively supported for decades. Tina Macuha, anchor of Good Day Sacramento on KMAX/CW-31, continues to be engaged in our efforts to raise awareness in the foothill region and will make a special appearance during this workshop. She was set to headline our Steps to Kick Cancer event again this year but it has been canceled due to COVID-19.”

Archer explains, “October is also recognized nationally as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We know this threat is ongoing – and now, increasing – due to struggles and stress associated with the pandemic. This prompted us to include our local expert partners in covering this very important topic in our workshop.”

Kelli Coane, Chief Administrative Director of the Resource Connection, will lead that discussion about Empowering Individuals Seeking Freedom from Toxic Relationships. She will also offer a virtual tour of their facilities in both San Andreas and Murphys.

Other presenters include Gynecologist Ali Parsa, M.D.; Radiologist Pardeep Athwal, M.D.; and Debbie Sellick, Mark Twain Health Care District Board Member. They will cover a variety of health topics –

  • Routine Wellness and Reproductive Health
  • Minimally Invasive GYNO Surgeries
  • Breast Cancer Awareness
  • Mammograms: Not Scary Any More

This virtual event will be hosted by MTMC Community Board Chair Kathy Northington, retired Calaveras County School Superintendent; and Co-hosted by Doug Archer, CEO and President of MTMC. Workshop participants must register in advance through the MTMC Webpage and will receive a return email with instructions for joining the Zoom session.
