Cardiac Rehabilitation

What We Do

Cardiac Rehabilitation is a program of cardiac-specific exercise and education designed to assist you in resuming and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
 

Our specially trained staff work with physicians to develop an individualized plan of Cardiac Rehabilitation for each patient. All patients with a cardiac diagnosis are candidates for outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation.


While in the program, you will use various equipment while your heart rate, heart rhythm and blood pressure are monitored. You will also learn how to lower your coronary disease risk factors.

Program Eligibility

In order to participate in our Monitored program our patients must have experienced one of these events within the past 12 months:

  • Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery
  • Heart Attack
  • PTCA with or without Stent
  • Current Stable Angina Pectoris
  • Heart Valve Replacement
  • Heart or Heart-Lung Transplant

Our Maintenance program covers a wide variety of cardiac disorders.

Program Benefits to You Include

  • Heart monitoring while you exercise to detect arrhythmia and other EKG changes insures that you are exercising safely.
  • Exercise and education. Exercise using the proper amount and type. Education on heart disease and contributing risk factors.
  • Assistance in developing a program oflifestyle modification and management.
  • Restore you safely to your optimal activity level for work or active retirement, and resume family and social roles. 
  • Transition to a new, more active and healthy lifestyle.

To become enrolled, you and your physician must decide that Cardiac Rehabilitation will benefit you. Your commitment to the program includes attending exercise classes three times each week, for a duration of three months.

Convenient Hours and Quality Services

Cardiac Rehabilitation services are provided by specialized hospital staff members including: Medical Director, Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, Social Worker, Physical Therapist, and Dietitian. Mark Twain Medical Center interdisciplinary staff has extensive experience in working with people of all ages.
 

Cardiac Rehabilitation must be prescribed by a physician and you will remain under the medical care of your physician who will be regularly informed of your progress. Your visits are usually covered by a variety of private insurance plans and Medicare.


Cardiac Rehabilitation office hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Classes are drop in basis on Monday and Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. to Noon.


Our office is located on the hospital campus' North Wing Outpatient Services Pavilion. Reserved parking is available for our patients.
