Transitional Year Residency Program

We are excited to introduce the Transitional Year Residency Program at Memorial Hospital, developed in collaboration with the Morehouse School of Medicine as part of the More in Common Alliance. This program is designed to offer a comprehensive and diverse clinical experience, equipping residents with the essential skills and knowledge to excel across a wide range of medical specialties. Our commitment is to foster a supportive, educational environment that prioritizes the delivery of high-quality healthcare—especially in underserved communities.

As a resident in our program, you will become an integral part of CommonSpirit Health, one of the nation's largest healthcare systems. Memorial Hospital is a 385-bed acute care facility featuring a full-service Emergency Department, an Accredited Chest Pain Center, a Nationally Certified Stroke Center, and a Thrombectomy-Capable Receiving Center. The Sarvanand Heart and Brain Center, located within Memorial Hospital, features Kern County’s first Bi-Plane Interventional Suite, Cardiac Catheterization Labs, a Hybrid Suite, Cardiac Rehab services, and Kern County's only designated Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. The hospital also houses the Lauren Small Children’s Center, which includes Kern County’s only pediatric emergency room, PICU, and Level II NICU. Also offering services such as orthopedics, burn care, wound care, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Our diverse patient population, drawn from Kern County and throughout Southern California, creates a dynamic learning environment that prepares you to become a skilled and compassionate physician capable of serving any community.

We invite you to join us on this transformative journey, where you will receive mentorship-driven training and opportunities to engage in community outreach and research. Together, we strive to make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of the communities we serve.
