The Dignity Health website is moving to CommonSpirit.org to deliver a more patient-centered digital experience across CA, AZ, and NV.
Merced, CA, MAY 6, 2026 – Mercy Medical Center, a member of CommonSpirit, earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns an “A”, “B”, “C”, “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country using evidence-based measures of patient safety focused exclusively on errors, accidents, injuries and infections. Of all US healthcare systems, CommonSpirit has the largest number of hospitals with 'Straight A' designations, a testament to their consistent commitment to patient safety and quality care.
“Achieving our seventh consecutive 'A' grade from The Leapfrog Group is a profound testament to the unwavering dedication of every member of the Mercy Medical Center team – from our tireless clinicians and compassionate staff to our supportive volunteers. This sustained recognition unequivocally demonstrates our steadfast commitment to providing the safest possible care to our Merced community, reflecting our values of excellence and compassion,” says Cathan Riding, Chief Operating Officer at Mercy Medical Center.
“An ‘A’ Grade is a strong sign that Mercy Medical Center is deeply committed to protecting patients from harm,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We commend the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers for the role each played in earning this distinction.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
