St. Joseph’s Medical Center Earns Place on Prestigious List of 2022 Fortune/Merative 100 Top Hospitals®

Posted in:

Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center (SJMC) has been named a 2022 Fortune/Merative 100 Top Hospitals®. The recognition is St. Joseph’s first time among the top-performing teaching hospitals in the U.S. The list is published annually by Fortune.

Merative, a data, analytics, and technology partner for the health industry, has identified the top hospitals from a rigorous evaluation of 2,650 short-term, acute care, non-federal hospitals in the U.S. The annual list recognizes excellence in clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, patient experience, and financial health. Merative, formerly IBM Watson Health, established the list to help identify best practices that may help other healthcare organizations achieve consistent, balanced, and sustainable high performance.

“We are honored to receive this national recognition from Fortune/Merative,” said Don Wiley, president and CEO of St. Joseph’s Medical Center. “It is a true testament to the dedication of our clinical staff in ensuring patients receive quality care and to our Community Health department in developing and implementing programs that improve the health of the San Joaquin community.”

Recognition as one of the Fortune/Merative 100 Top Hospitals demonstrates SJMC’s ongoing commitment to prioritizing patient-centered care. According to Merative, compared to similar hospitals, the hospitals included on the Fortune/Merative 100 Top Hospitals list had better results on critical clinical and operational performance indicators. These include survival rates, patient complications, healthcare-associated infections, 30-day mortality and 30-day hospital-wide readmission rates, length of stay, throughput in emergency departments, inpatient expenses, profitability, and patient ratings. The Fortune/Merative 100 Top Hospitals list also incorporates a community health measure into its ranking process.
