Food Bank Programs:
Emergency Food Program
- Who: Open to all qualified low-income Shasta County families (once per month).
- What: A mix of canned goods, dry goods, salvage, grocery recovery items, donated goods, and sometimes bakery/meat. Contents vary.
- When & Where: Distributed the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month at 100 Mercy Oaks Drive, Redding, CA.
- How: Register with a simple intake form at the distribution site. No pre-registration needed.
TEFAP (Commodities Program)
- Who: Open to all Shasta County residents who self-certify they meet income guidelines.
- What: Monthly distribution of government surplus commodities, typically including canned goods, dry goods, meat, and sometimes produce/dairy. Contents vary.
- How: Register with a simple intake form at the distribution site. No pre-registration needed.
- Need someone to pick up for you? Print and use the Alternative Pick up Request Form.
Senior Commodities Program (Senior Box)
- Who: Shasta County residents aged 60+ who meet income guidelines.
- What: A pre-packed box of shelf-stable goods (e.g., milk, juice, canned goods, dry goods). Content varies. First-come, first-served; pick up at your assigned site.
- How: Applications are currently being accepted. Register in advance (takes 30 days to process). Ask for an application in person or [print an online form] to sign and return.
- Need someone to pick up for you? Submit an Alternate Proxy Pick up Form at the food bank or a distribution site.

Meals on Wheels
A nutritious meal is served Monday through Friday to seniors aged 60 or older who are homebound due to an illness or physical disability and have no one to prepare a meal for them. Frozen meals are available for those who need weekend meals or live outside the local routing areas. The meals are approved by a registered dietician and meet 1/3 of the recommended daily dietary allowance.
