As people retire from their careers, their children become more independent and the demands of life slow, they may find themselves with time, wisdom and knowledge to give others. Connected Living has many volunteer opportunities to consider. 

Dignity Health Connected Living Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are instrumental in providing services to our elderly and under-served community. Over 300 volunteers work in Connected Living’s various programs. Any interested individuals are encouraged to call (530) 226-3098 to learn more about volunteering at Connected Living.

Activities Assistant

Volunteers needed to encourage client participation in daily activities in the Adult Day Health Care setting. Some of the activities may include arts, crafts, games, reading, etc.

Advocacy

Volunteers needed to meet and greet public, provide resources and information, make appropriate referrals and assist with paperwork as needed. Volunteers also needed to call and check in on frail homebound seniors and report back to the Connected Living office.

Americorps Seniors

Here are a sample of our volunteer opportunities:

  • Food Education & Delivery: Food banks and home delivered meals
  • Mentoring: Assisting children in a school classroom
  • Companionship: Friendly home visitation
  • TeleCare: Calling homebound seniors daily
  • Respite: Giving caregivers a break
  • Transportation: Driving clients to medical appointments
  • Advocate: Connect seniors to community programs

  • Americorps Seniors
    • Serves Shasta, Siskiyou, Trinity, Tehama, Lassen, and Glenn counties. 
    • Hundreds of seniors aged 55+ are making an impact in our community by giving of their experience and spare time. Your time is valuable to people of all ages. Based on your experience or on areas where you’ve always wanted to contribute, Americorps Seniors provides a chance for you to join our team of Senior Volunteers.

Note: Established volunteers must pass a background check and attend an orientation.

Clerical

Working in administrative offices performing clerical duties. Volunteers needed to assist with copying, filing, sorting, stuffing envelopes, data entry, etc.

Entertainment

Singers, dancers, comedians and musicians. Volunteers needed to perform in the Adult Day Health Care program.

Foster Grandparent

FGP serves Shasta, Siskiyou, Trinity, Tehama, and Lassen counties.

Special Events & Projects

Volunteers needed to help with special events. Park clean up, Adopt a Senior, Shoebox project, open houses, greeters, winter and spring celebrations, recruitment, recognitions, mailings and other special projects.

TeleCare

Daily check in call to homebound frail senior clients to see how they are doing.

Senior Companions – Make Independence a Reality

You know how much you value independence in your life. Now you can help others stay independent too.

Families in every community struggle to care for their loved ones. By becoming a companion to a frail person, you help that person stay in their own home. You will also join with thousands of others to help control the rising cost of health care. Whether you’re giving families or professional caregivers much-needed time off, running errands, or simply being a friend, you’ll make a difference that strengthens and helps preserve an individual’s independence.

Benefits of SCP

Seniors who meet income eligibility receive:

  • Association with a nationally-recognized organization
  • $3 per hour at 15 hours per week minimum. The stipend reimbursement is not taxable and is not in any way considered income.
  • Annual recognition
  • Mileage or bus fare reimbursement
  • Supplemental Accident and Liability Insurance Coverage while volunteering
  • 40 hours of pre-service orientation, training, and on-going monthly training

Eligibility:

  • Must be 55 years of age or older
  • Enjoy working with seniors
  • Approved health clearance by physician
  • FBI, DOJ, and National Sex Offender background check clearances

Retired and Senior Volunteer – Lead With Your Experience

You’ve gained a lifetime of experience. Now is the time to put your skills and talents to good use by volunteering through the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).

RSVP is one of America’s largest volunteer network for people age 55 and over. Join RSVP’s nearly 200,000 volunteers across the country who are tackling tough issues in their communities.

With RSVP, you choose how and where you want to serve, and the amount of time you want to give each month. It is an opportunity to draw on your skills or develop new one. In short, you find the volunteer opportunity that’s right for you.
