Dignity Health Announces New Sacramento Market President

SACRAMENTO, CA (April 22, 2024) — Dignity Health is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Christina (Tina) Johnson as the new Dignity Health Sacramento Market President. Dr. Johnson served as Dignity Health’s Mercy General Hospital President and CEO before being elevated to this new market role. In this expanded capacity, she will oversee five of Dignity Health’s hospitals in the Greater Sacramento area. The facilities include Mercy General Hospital, Mercy San Juan Medical Center, Woodland Memorial Hospital, Methodist Hospital of Sacramento and Mercy Hospital of Folsom.  

“Dr. Johnson joined Dignity Health in 2022 and quickly demonstrated visionary leadership and a deep understanding of healthcare operations and physician engagement,” said Julie Sprengel, California Region President, CommonSpirit Health. “We look forward to seeing the mission-driven contributions she will make to this important market under her leadership.” 

Dr. Johnson brings over 25 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience in faith-based, not-for-profit healthcare. Starting as an emergency room physician, she transitioned into hospital administration over the past 15 years. Prior to joining Dignity Health, Dr. Johnson held roles as CEO of Longmont United Hospital and COO/CMO of Lutheran Medical Center.

The market leadership role comes as part of a statewide restructure to better align with organizational goals of CommonSpirit Health of which Dignity Health is part of. A search for a new Mercy General Hospital President and CEO is underway. The previous Sacramento Market President, Michael Korpiel, will continue to serve as President and CEO of Dignity Health Mercy San Juan Medical Center.
