Dignity Health Mercy General Hospital Welcomes New President & CEO Steven Foster
Sacramento, CA – Dignity Health announced today that Steven Foster has been selected to serve as the new President & CEO of Mercy General Hospital. Foster succeeds Dr. Tina Johnson who was appointed Dignity Health Sacramento Market President earlier this year.
Most recently, Foster led St. Luke’s Health Sugar Land Hospital and Patients Medical Center in South Houston. During his tenure, both hospitals achieved clinical designations in bariatrics, spine, joint and trauma, LeapFrog “A” and “B” safety scores. He also developed innovative hospital operations programs that are now being used across CommonSpirit Health, and oversaw St. Luke’s and Patients Medical Center’s response to COVID-19.
“I am excited to join the team at Mercy General Hospital and continue to build on its legacy of providing high-quality, world-class care,” said Foster. “I recognize the critical role this hospital has played in the Sacramento community over the last 100 years, and admire and appreciate the staff and providers – past and present – who have made Mercy General this beacon of light in the community.”
Previously, Foster held Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer positions at Community Health Systems, Universal Health Services and International Hospital Corporation. He holds a Masters of Healthcare Administration and Masters of Business Administrations from the University of Houston and is a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives. Foster also serves on a wide range of boards, including a national seat on the governing board of the National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives.
“Steven brings a wealth of experience and leadership and I am thrilled to have him join Mercy General Hospital,” said Johnson. “I have no doubt that his commitment to patient care, safety, stewardship and building relationships in the community will drive Mercy General and Dignity Health forward.”
