Dignity Health Mercy San Juan Medical Center Launches Internal Medicine Residency Program, Welcomes Inaugural Class in July
Sacramento, Calif. — Dignity Health Mercy San Juan Medical Center recently announced it will welcome its inaugural class of internal medicine residents this summer, marking the launch of the hospital’s first graduate medical education program.
Ten residents, selected from a highly competitive international pool of applicants, will begin training July 1 as part of the new three-year residency designed to prepare physicians to meet the evolving needs of patients and communities across Northern California.
“This program creates an opportunity to shape the next generation of physicians in an environment rooted in collaboration, critical thinking and compassionate care,” said Dr. Murali Adusumalli, Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Mercy San Juan. “We’re proud to welcome an exceptional first class and provide a strong foundation for their careers.”
Mercy San Juan is proud to be the region’s leader in neurovascular care and home to the Dignity Health Neurological Institute of Northern California. The hospital also features a Level II Trauma Center, a state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and serves as a regional referral hub for its advanced medical services, complex case management and commitment to quality care.
“For over 55 years, Mercy San Juan has been committed to providing high-quality, compassionate health care for the Sacramento Region,” said Michael Korpiel, President & CEO at Mercy San Juan. “Our Residency Program is another example of this commitment, and I am excited to see the impact this program will have on these residents and the community.”
The Internal Medicine Residency Program reflects Mercy San Juan’s commitment to clinical excellence, medical education and community-based care. Residents will train at one of the region’s busiest hospitals, gaining experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings under the guidance of experienced faculty.
Program features include:
- Inpatient training at Mercy San Juan, offering exposure to a wide range of medical conditions and acuity levels.
- Outpatient rotations through Dignity Health Medical Foundation clinics, including primary care and internal medicine subspecialties.
- Subspecialty experience in cardiology, infectious disease and other disciplines through partnerships with affiliated physicians.
- Simulation-based learning at the Clinical Learning Center, including procedural training, high-fidelity scenarios and crisis management.
Residents will complete 13 four-week rotations each year in core areas such as internal medicine wards, intensive care units (medical, neuro and cardiac), cardiology, infectious disease and ambulatory care.
