Dignity Health Mercy San Juan Medical Center Hospital Earns an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group
New Grade for spring 2025 is a national recognition for commitment to patient safety
SACRAMENTO, CALIF., MAY 1, 2025 — Dignity Health Mercy San Juan Medical Center earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
Mercy San Juan’s "A" grade is a reflection of Dignity Health's broader culture of safety, which has led to the system receiving the most "A" grades in California for the spring 2025 Leapfrog ratings.
"Mercy San Juan is deeply committed to serving our community with the safest and highest quality care possible," said Michael Korpiel, Mercy San Juan’s President and CEO. "This 'A' grade from The Leapfrog Group reflects that commitment and inspires us to continue working diligently to earn the trust and confidence of our patients and their families."“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade reflects enormous dedication to patient safety,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I extend my congratulations to Dignity Health Mercy General Hospital, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for creating a culture where patients come first.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
