Woodland Memorial Hospital Unveils The Gallery at Woodland Healthcare - Creating a Healing Environment through Art and Music

Posted in:
Woodland Memorial Hospital is unveiling a unique and innovative new element to the hospital's healing environment - an art gallery, housed right within the hospital walls.

The Gallery at Woodland Healthcare is a vibrant, healing and artistic space, featuring both artistic exhibits and musical presentations. Exhibits within the space will be rotated on a quarterly basis and will feature the work of original artists from around the world.

Exhibitions will be selected for display in the Gallery by the Woodland Healthcare Art & Music Committee. This committee, comprised of Woodland Healthcare employees, physicians and leadership, is focused using art and music to promote a healing environment throughout the hospital campus.

Criteria for artwork to be considered for display in the Gallery includes:

  • Educational, cultural and of broad public interest
  • Economically attainable
  • Two-dimensional and three-dimensional works are permissible
  • Small ensemble groups, choral or instrumental, solo and duo preferred
  • Digital installations, if the artist provides all required equipment
  • Community or group shows defined as three or more artists
  • Theme shows defined as exhibits curated solely by curator
  • State or regional exhibitions
  • National or international traveling collaborations or touring exhibitions

The Gallery is an integral part of Woodland Memorial’s ongoing mission to provide world-class care and demonstrates the hospital’s commitment to supporting the role art plays in creating a healing environment for patients, families and staff.

The community is invited to a grand opening exhibition for The Gallery at Woodland Healthcare on Thursday, Jan. 21. Community members are invited to be among the first to preview the gallery space and to view the original art works by Anne Magratten. “With my wood panel works, I’ll spend hours painting a landscape and then promptly run it through a table saw…The cuts allow me to infuse abstraction into representation…I conceptualize both outcomes as painting through addition and subtraction, gains and losses, a process similar to the fluctuations of perception and memory,” describes Anne about her work.
